Hey all,

I just purchased a Wii under the impression we could use a regular controller to play the games. Turns out it doesn't work like that. I am planning to resell the system on Ebay but wanted to ask here first. Does anyone play the Wii? If so, how hard is it?

Post 2 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Monday, 26-Nov-2007 19:50:17

It is suposed to work with a gamecube controler but I never had one. When it comes to the new stuff we are left in the era of gamecube and gameboy advanced. I have a nintendo DS but I could sort of figure out what I was doing in the store but then when I got home I couldn't figure it out. the new generation of video games leave us in the dirt!! I can't play the 4th generation of pokemon. I'm stuck at 386. not that that is a bad thing but still, I like to keep up and now I can't!!!

Post 3 by shadow of john (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 28-Nov-2007 18:04:08

i play the forth gen pokemon, the only thing you need the touch pad for is the contests which aren't even worth doing!
and for the wii, you can use a gamecube controler with it. I have friends who do it.

Post 4 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 28-Nov-2007 19:57:35

How do you see what you are doing if you play on a DS or what do you do to see what you are doing? I need to know because I want to play it so bad!

Post 5 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 10-Dec-2007 15:04:06

All our family are p fully sighted and mynan and grandad and sister play the nintendo whee. I don't understand how a blind person can play most of the games, because they are all games where you have to be able to see what you are doing to be able to know where to movethe remote control. I hope that makes sense.

Post 6 by serrebi101 (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 20-Dec-2007 20:18:30

pokemon still has the wall sound in the new versions. I know this cause I own a ds lite and diamond. As for the wii, many of the games allow you to use the gamecube controll, but some games don't. Mortal Kombat deception does, the new super smash brose will have a controller mode, etc. Wii sports, the game that comes with the system does not work with a gamecube control at all, but that game is playable IMO.

Post 7 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Friday, 21-Dec-2007 13:29:54

I know it still has the wall sound but the screen is near impossible to see. shinx 13, monferno 15, staravia 15. I was bored and still haven't hit the first gym cuz I can't find Orbura gate.

I've been looking if there is a way, like with gamecube or something to play DS games on the TV. You can use a gameboy player and a gamecube to plae gba and gb games like that. I just wish there was a way to do that with the DS.

Post 8 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Friday, 21-Dec-2007 15:38:55

I didn't even know that such mainstream video games were accessible. I'm a total, with no light perception or anything,s o that could make a difference. I got an original Gameboy cause I thought it would be cool to have, but could do very little with it. Same with the original Nintendo. I also have an Atari, but that thing never had sound, or it did and now it doesn't. In either case, I've never been able to play it. That said, I did hear of this totally blind guy who plays fully sighted video games by listening to the sound. He even plays them backwards, facing away from the screen, and manages to beat sighted opponents. Of course, he started at a very young age. I wish I could find the article so I could show you guys, but anyway.

Post 9 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Friday, 21-Dec-2007 21:18:57

the fact that a gaming system's name can be confused with a sexual euphamism or a bodily function makes me not want to play or buy it.
Wanna play with my Wii?
NO thanks. I'm not in to that kind of thing.

Post 10 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 26-Dec-2007 14:25:29

I don't see how that is a sexual ewifimisum. it is the Wii! nothing sexual about that! or am I missing something.

No, mainstreem video games are not accessible. I have good enough vision that I can play them, and beat most of them if given the time.

Post 11 by serrebi101 (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 27-Dec-2007 16:48:13

There's black market devices from places like lip sang that will allow you to get your ds's video to appear on tv screens, you just have to look for them online. These are unliscenced devices , though, similar to modchips and the like.

Post 12 by chikorita (move over school!) on Thursday, 27-Dec-2007 19:54:30

what? with the wii the controlers are motion sensative. i love it! i was able to get 507 poinss on my own boxing character! that's only 493 away from pro!

Post 13 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 27-Dec-2007 20:47:45

I'd rather wait untill they come out with something that would make it so you could play the DS games on the TV, something like the game boy player for the gamecube, or the transfer packs for pokemon stadium 1 &2 that enable you to play the first six pokemon game boy games on the N64. at least with those, you know what you're getting!

Post 14 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 29-Dec-2007 22:42:52

i have actually come across that article as well about a totally blind gamer playing video games but i cannot find it anymore.

Post 15 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Monday, 05-Jan-2009 0:31:33

hey guys. i was wondering if any of you are able to start a game on your own? i found out that you have to make some finger pointer thing hit the disc channel by moving the remote and it is hard as hell for me to do it. anyone done it or changed a setting so the d-pad on the wii remote will get you to the disc channel? other than that, the wii is not too bad to play :). thanks.

Post 16 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 07-Jan-2009 11:39:17

I cheat on that, I move and when I hear the little sound that says the pointer is on a channel I hit a and then the plus or minus buttons till I get to the disk channel. then do the same when you hit the a on the game and then wait till you hear the little ding sound, I've almost always gotten it several times.

my highest score on wii sports bowling is 179, boxing I'm not sure, and in super smash brothers brawl I already have ness, marth, luigi, sonic and snake. all beaten in their fights on my own. squeeep. even though I do have a friend going through adventure mode for me.

Post 17 by Geemoney (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 08-Jan-2009 23:17:26

Well, I'm totally blind and I am a pro in boxing and in baseball I'm good, and with the bowling I'm a beast. There are a couple you can play because if you have been playing games as long ass I have it would be easy, I'm one of the few totally blind people who can play games like me.

Post 18 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 08-Jan-2009 23:25:51

We got a wii for christmas. My highest on bowling is 228. My best in baseball is 7 to 0. Man, that was an epic game. I may actually consider getting braw now, I wasn't sure if I really wanted it or not. Yes, you can put the GC controllers in and play it that way, but I've only done that for my GC games. For my GBA ames, I would use the GBA plaer that I bought with my GC. O, for Liam, lol. When the WII was the Nintendo Revolution, and Nintendo was about to change its name to the WII, I was listening to a gamer podcast, and they said, "you know, if they change the name to the Wii we can call the remotes the ners." Its pronounced wee, ners, I laughed at that.

Post 19 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Friday, 09-Jan-2009 12:40:14

ok thanks for the help. i'll try it. so let me make sure i follow you. basically once you get the pointer to move you hit a and you can use plus or minus to move to the channel? then hit a when you get to the disc channel and the game will load? that is the way i gather that. thanks.

Post 20 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Friday, 09-Jan-2009 13:23:45

hey. that plus or minus thing did not work. i had to use the wii remote the whole time. it is kinda hard still but i'm getting it. you just have to get used to where things are. on the wii i have the plus minus changed screens. it did not move the channels. thanks.

Post 21 by CrazedMidget (Sweet fantacy's really do come in small packages!) on Friday, 09-Jan-2009 18:52:34

Omg i love the wii! its amazing, its pretty easy, but if you dont have any sight, i suggest you play with a sighted person.

Post 22 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 14-Jan-2009 22:49:45

it changes the screen, but the screen is the channel, like when you get onto the disc channel, hit the plus or minus to go to other channels, I only use it that way to get to the channel.

and, the gbaa player will not work on the wii, so you still need a gamecube for that.

Post 23 by Blind Bigfoot (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 17-Jan-2009 18:03:46

Been playing my cousin's wii for a while and I think I'll actually get one soon. Boxing's a great workout. Like one of the other posters said, it's a lot easier if you've been playing games for a while.

Post 24 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Saturday, 17-Jan-2009 18:19:09

yes boxing is fun, but so is the running stuff on the wii fit, you do need to sort of see to do the whola hooping, but still, that's fun too.

Post 25 by KnittingRose (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 17-Jan-2009 22:30:15

I just wish there was a hand held game like the game boy that had cartridges with text games that would have voice.

Post 26 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Monday, 26-Jan-2009 12:35:13

I've been able to start wii sports. which isn't so bad once you get used to pointing. I was used to moving a mouse around, but I found out you actually have to tilt and point. as you move the wii, you will hear a click and feel a vibration if you highlight a button. Conceptually it's different from anything people have ever used, but it is doable with some practice and patience.

Post 27 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Sunday, 01-Feb-2009 11:49:57

patience is needed for any game, getting frustrated is never going to help, wasp, best scores in wii bowling, for those who've played it?

mine is 179

Post 28 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 01-Feb-2009 21:08:07

Mine is 215.

Post 29 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Monday, 02-Feb-2009 12:32:44

lol, i like the wii for some games. i even can roll right down the rail in the last fraim of the power boaling (its a mode for boleing) and when you doo this, the ball hits a button and knocks down all 99 pins. lol i have a score of 244 on the normal boleing. love the golf, and we have other games that are easy enough to play. lol, snow bording games are fun on the wii, more than they have ever been. but i like the ps3 better.

Post 30 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 03-Feb-2009 12:59:24

I've just started reading about the Wii. Where can I find the best prices?

DarkWing, can you tell me more about the hulahooping. *Grin,* that one sounds fun!

My partner and I are hoping a wii will be fun and a good way to work out. Jillian Michaels actually has a wii fit game. Though it gets really mixed reviews.

I think the boxing would be cool! The baseball and the bowling as well.

Post 31 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Friday, 06-Feb-2009 11:03:17

baseball, you need timing for, I haven't gotten to trying it yet,

the hola hooping, you move your hips while standing on the balance board, and it will randomly toss other hoops at you, when you have to lean to either the left or the right to catch them to twril multiple hoops, and that is where you'll need ision for. to see which side the hoops are on, my mom and I usually do the Wii fit once a day, her in the morning, me at night. she likes the step arobics, but I can't do that, grr. you can try looking for a wii at best buy, or other places, target, walmart, amazon, other places like that.

Post 32 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 06-Feb-2009 13:05:37

Darkwing, thanks. I'm excited about the possibility!

Post 33 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 0:28:53

ha. i have 300 :D in bowling. and now i can start wii games by myself. i loooove the wii now. hahahah plus im getting good at tenis. baseball is doable you just have to get used to the sounds and timing. and i play boxing all the time. im pro in boxing and bowling.

Post 34 by fantabulous tigger (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 9:15:48

I lvoe the wii! I play the wii sports almost constantly. All I have to do is count the clicks when moving my person, and it's like playing a regular game of bowling or baseball. Wii fit is fun too.

Post 35 by zeekerdude (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 20:26:10

I have a wii and i love it. I absultly fucking love it. I'm able to playmost of my games. It took me a little time to learn but i got the hang of it.

Post 36 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 5:03:01

The games I plan on getting are Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Paper Mario since you can use the Wii controller as a normal contoller. However I do enjoy the bowling I play that alot! My highest score is 266 so far on there.

Now if I remember correctly I think you can get Pokemon D/P as an emulator, because I watch alot of Let's Plays on YouTube and it looked like there were people who had gotten emulator versions of them games.

Post 37 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 14:07:54

oooo!! squeeepals!! that would be great!! to get DP as an emulater.

and ssb brawl, too fun!! way too fun, shadow moses stage is cool. fight there 15 times to get snake.

Post 38 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 19:30:13

I think that I'll be getting braw too. I wanna play with some of my sighted friends, see how well I do. I've played the one on the GC, and liked it.

Post 39 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 14:58:44

marth and roy rock on the GC, marth still rocks on the wii, but ike is good too.

Post 40 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 15:13:42

Wooh-Hooh! We're getting one! What perfect timing! A co-worker of my partner has one for sale!

From what I understand, it is the wii and wii sport, new in box.

We'll have to wait for next month to treat ourselves to the wiifit. Any suggestions on how I should get started with the game? Any game in particular that you found fun to play being blind? I have a bit of vision, but our tv is only a 20-inch...lol!

Ooh, I hope this is fun!

Post 43 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 12-Feb-2009 18:31:24

Its fun, give it a bit of time to get used to it. FOr sports, get yourself used to the way the remote works with bowling and baseball, and if they give you the numchucks, tire yourself out with some good old boxing. I'm able to knock my opponents out sometimes in the first round.

Post 44 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Monday, 16-Feb-2009 10:41:15

hehehe, boxing, is fun, I sluged some guy in the forehead, and then did it again, sending him fliping backwards, omg, two words for you, work out!! heheeh

Post 45 by Blind Bigfoot (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 20-Mar-2009 10:04:36

Wow I'm surprised this topic has so many posts. It seems like forever that I priginally started it. Anyways I've got a quick question. I'm playing tennis and able to hit the ball but it almost always goes out. Is there a way to stop this or is it just luck of the draw.

Post 46 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Monday, 25-May-2009 11:29:09

I just heard this last night, there is a wawy to play DS games on the wii, I wil try to reseearch, and talk to the person who told me, and I will get back on here with what i found, unless any of you know wat i'm talking about.

Post 47 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 26-May-2009 1:37:30

How could you play DS games on the wii? You can't place them in the disc tray, they are too big. Unless you can download them somehow from the internet to the WII, I don't see how you can.

Post 48 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Tuesday, 26-May-2009 20:13:37

yeh, you download the ds rom and play it in the emulator you download for the wii
its homebrewed like so so many nice games and apps for the little system.

Post 49 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 29-May-2009 22:15:44

My folks got a Wii for Christmas last year and they bowl almost every Saturday. They also got the Wii Fit game and for a while they worked that one daily. Other stuff sort of got in the way of that though, but i do think they plan on getting back into that again. As for me, I like Wii SportsBbowling best. I played Baseball once or twice but sice I've never particularly liked baseball anyway I didn't enjoy that as much. I also played the golf game once and found it fairly doable. You just have to get the hang of swinging the remote just right.

Post 50 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 29-May-2009 23:02:07

I love baseball I figured out how to play it by using the pitching sounds when it hits a certain point I swing. I'm alright at it goten a few singles a few doubles a few homeruns and some tripples thrown in their too.
O and for the WII fit...
Measureing...measuring...measuring...measuring...measuring...

Post 51 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 31-May-2009 2:20:40

Exactly. That was funny the first few times but it did get annoying. I know you're measuring! As for bowling, it's the one I seem to have the most nack for. I reember once I got a very difficult split and I wished I could have seen the look on my dad's face when I somehow picked it up. I believe his exact words were What!

Post 52 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 31-May-2009 11:17:17

I've gotten that too, though the exact words were holy crap!

Post 53 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Tuesday, 02-Jun-2009 5:16:48

my issue with the wii is pointing at options, but with a little assistance, you can do fine. the wii shop channel is not at all useable, but that's when you call a friend to come over and buy the games you want. If you don't mind that, then the wii is fine.

Post 54 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 11-Jun-2009 10:10:50

Post 56 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 12-Jun-2009 6:18:31

What is that slot for above where you place the disc in? Their is a place where you can open up and it looks like some kind of card can go in their, but Its too small for a DS game. Maybe a flash card? I thought it was the gamecubes memmory card slot, but that is on the top next to the controller ports.

Post 57 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Sunday, 14-Jun-2009 12:38:28

that is for an SD card, for nintendo memory... you can buy games and save them either on the wii itself or on the memory card. note these are the games u buy off the wii shop channel...

I can play the Wii by myself, but since I can't see what I'm doing, I usually play with my friend or someone from my family or some of my friends. I can play baseball, golf, tenis, and bowling. My little sister and twin sister taught me how to play. Now I'm hooked! One of my visually impaired friend gave me a tip on baseball. Now I usually get 2 or 3 home runs, depending on how I do.

Maybe the running one, but I'm not sure.

Post 65 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Monday, 28-Dec-2009 10:33:53

Ok, So, I found this out totally with out meaning too but, in many games and such, you can use the D pad to move around as well asmoveing the curser bythe usual methods.
Keep the controllor steady though or this method won't help you out all that much.

Post 66 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Monday, 28-Dec-2009 15:00:19

some games will let you do that. saddly punch out won't. which made me kind of sad.

Post 67 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 29-Dec-2009 16:32:13

I used to love Punch-out on the NES. I actually almost beat it once totally without help. The other times I had to cheat and use the Game Genie. But once I made it as far as Super Macho Man and probably within a few punches of KO-ing him. Of course then you have to fight Tyson or, as he's known in regular Punch-out, Mr. Dream. And for the first ninety seconds he has those super punches that instantly down you if they hit you.

Post 68 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 30-Dec-2009 11:59:24

That D-pad trick won't work ether with findng the start button for loading the games. I've been playng my sisters copy of Guitar Hero Aero Smith. never thought I'd like Guitar Hero, but its ok. I'm only playng it on easy mode, but I can do about 3 songs ether mostly or completely through. I still prefer the actual instrument, but its alrght guess. I'd like to try Rock band, as when I'm playng, I keep screing up because I'm strumming to the beat of the song nstead of watching the bars so I know when to hold the note, or get ready to hit a new fret.

Post 69 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 31-Dec-2009 21:53:11

Post 70 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Friday, 01-Jan-2010 13:50:45

Is that boxing game for realike? How does it compare, say, to workin' out with a punching bag?

Post 71 by chikorita (move over school!) on Wednesday, 27-Jan-2010 17:29:42

I haven't done a punching bag before, so can't compare it to that. One problem though is if you play with someone else, it doesn't seem like the wii can take it (you'll be punching and stuff, and suddenly you're controller won't do anything for like 10 seconds, just enough for the other person to knock you out! gurhrhrrhrh!). So asside from that I'm pretty good at boxing, I'm great at tennis (although sometimes I forget which corner I'm at) and I epically fail at golf and baseball. How can you tell where you are on ssb?

Post 72 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 28-Jan-2010 16:28:48

Baseball is just a matter of timing. I'm really good at that, bowling and boxing. Tennis I suck at, the same with golf.

Post 73 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Friday, 29-Jan-2010 17:07:14

ssb, i can do because, i've got about 50% vission in my left eye, that's how i can muttle through games, like pokemon, which is easy, but, ssb, again, you, have to have a good amount of usuable vison to play, at least that's in my oppinion

Post 74 by The Enigmatic Superstar! (ghetto soldier ) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 9:15:53

I play wii and i'm totally blind, I concentrate on the sound of the ball in tennis, the punches in boxing and so on. But because I'm a massive sports fan, I use my knowledge on the wii and it works, not to mention it keeps u fit, particularly the further u go on in boxing, when you become a pro, its pretty difficult! But then again I have always played playstation too.

hi. so i've got a wii, i figured out how to start games, and i'm wondering what ones to buy. i bought force unleashed the other day, i need sighted assistance for the ends of the boss battles seeing as you need to follow prompts, but does anyone know of any decent somewhat playable ones apart from wii sports and such seeing as i've tried those.
